KREWELLA’S “ALIVE” SCORES GOLD CERTIFICATION
EDM TRIO SELLS IN EXCESS OF 500,000 ON DEBUT SINGLE
(New York, NY; Columbia Records; June 3, 2013) - Breakout EDM trio Krewella have garnered their first gold certified single with over 500,000 copies sold of their crossover hit “Alive.” The single, off of the group’s critically acclaimed debut EP Play Hard, spent an impressive 32 weeks on the Billboard Dance/Mix Show Airplay charts before hitting #1 earlier this month. As “Alive” simultaneously broke into the top 10 on the Pop Airplay charts, Billboard declared, “It's official: Krewella are dubstep-rock-pop-radio stars.” The group’s official video for “Alive” was released last December and to date has over 10 million views.
Krewella is the first EDM act to be featured in Vevo’s LIFT program and for this week’s part of the series the trio showcase their talents with an acoustic version of their hit single “Alive”: http://smarturl.it/AliveAcoustic. After taking home an International Dance Music Award for ‘Best Break-Through Artist (Group),’ Krewella teamed up with previous IDMA winner Hardwell for this month’s release of the final “Alive” remix. The track shot up to #1 on the Beatport charts making this Krewella’s second chart topping release with the EDM digital retailer.
The Chicago based group, comprised of songwriting-vocalist sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf and producer Kris “Rain Man” Trindl, broke out with their multi-genre brand of EDM at this year’s Ultra Music Festival where they performed to over 30,000 fans. Named by USA Today as the” EDM world’s next big stars,” the demand for Krewella has grown, in one short year, from local warehouse parties in Chicago to top billings at Ultra Music Festival, Spring Awakening, Electric Daisy Carnival, Firefly Music Festival and more. The group is currently putting the final touches on their upcoming debut album, which will be out later this year on Columbia Records.
